UPDATE: BNSF to Accept Carta Porte 3.0 Logic Beginning March 19, 2024

As previously communicated, the Mexican Tax Authority (SAT) will launch Carta Porte 3.0 with two new requirements (Mexican Material Code (MMT) and Mexican Importer Information) for compliance on April 1, 2024. To prepare for the April SAT enforcement date, BNSF systems will be ready to accept and send Carta Porte 3.0 logic beginning March 19, 2024.

By March 31, the BNSF Shipping Instructions tool (AWI) will allow customers to bill shipments to Mexico in compliance with Carta Porte 3.0. However, the BNSF Shipping Instructions Modification System (SIMS), the tool that allows customers to edit their waybills, will not be ready until June. In the interim, customers may set up billing patterns to Mexico by contacting BNSF Waybill Solutions via Message Us.

Failure to comply with Carta Porte rules may result in shipping delays or rejection at interchanges with Mexican railroads.
